Peter Hahn Obituary Peter Ernst August Hahn, of Rolla, MO, was welcomed in heaven on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the age of 83. He was born on January 26, 1932, in Berlin, Germany, to the late Dr. Hans Hahn and Eva (Cabjolsky) Hahn. After completing his studies at Kloeckner Humbolt Deutz, he worked at Volkswagen (VW) before traveling to Canada. After immigrating to the United States from Germany in 1955 and serving in the US Army, he was united in marriage to Irene Agathe Ida Zierke on May 7, 1960. To this union was born one daughter, Martina Susanne. Peter's career was marked by creative problem solving working for All Brake, C&K Design, and ultimately the Chicago Communication Service/Motorola all in Chicago while serving in the Illinois National Guard for twelve years. Peter was an avid Amateur Radio (emergency communications) operator for over forty years eventually attaining the Extra License. He is well known in the "ham" community under his call sign WB9KHR. Under his guidance both his daughter and oldest grandson earned their first licenses at an early age. He was an active member of the Chicago Suburban Radio Association and upon retiring to Rolla, a member of the Rolla Regional Amateur Radio Society where he served on the board, worked with university students and assisted in the Boy Scout Radio merit badge. Peter was a member of Hope Lutheran Church of Rolla. He is survived by his wife, Irene, of the home; his daughter Martina and her husband Dr. Stuart Baur, and grandsons, Markus, Erich and Wilhelm all of Rolla. He was preceded in death by his parents. He will be missed. Funeral Service for Peter Hahn will be held 10:00AM Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Rolla Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Dr. Richard Krenning officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, April 27, 2015 from 5:00-7:00PM at the Rolla Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Phelps County Animal Shelter, Delbert Day Cancer Center or the Kaleidoscope Discovery Center-Communications Exhibit. Cards are available at all James & Gahr locations.
